1st Infrastructure Summit Philippines Set in May 2017

Category : Uncategorized

The first ever Infrastructure Summit Philippines is set to bring together stakeholders from both the private and public sectors together in one venue to assess the current state of infrastructure development in the country, provide an update on laws affecting the implementation of PPP projects, and outline opportunities for greater collaboration between the government and the industry. The summit is scheduled on May 3 and 4, 2017 at the New World Makati Hotel and is organized by the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA) together with the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations, Inc. (IFAWPCA). Those interested to attend can register online at

“We are in the ‘golden age’ of infrastructure in the Philippines and a lot of the groundwork is needed to meet our government’s targets. It’s critical that we keep the industry abreast of the policies, procedures, and projects as we seek to work even closer with the government in this time of great infrastructure drive. That is the rationale behind this summit – to facilitate dialogue, lay out action plans, and foster partnerships,” said Anthony Fernandez, past president of the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. and president of First Balfour, Inc., which has delivered numerous infrastructure projects nationwide and was the first local contractor to be awarded with a design and build contract for the 5.5-kilometer LRT Line 1 North Extension project.

The 2-day summit has been designed to address four main issues: accelerating infrastructure development; opportunities in the key sectors of transportation, tourism, energy, ICT, and social infrastructure; emergency powers on procurement; and challenges in implementing public-private partnership (PPP) and official development assistance (ODA) projects. Speakers will be coming from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Public-Private Partnership Center, Department of Finance (DOF), Government Procurement Policy Board, and financial institutions like World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, among others.

The summit is managed by Philconstruct Events, Exhibitions, and Conferences Corp. and Global-Link Exhibitions Specialist, Inc., the same names behind the annual PHILCONSTRUCT expo. “There is no other occasion where you will see all the contractors involved with infrastructure projects come together and discuss with government on how to make the Philippines great again with the rolling out of mega-infrastructure projects across the country,” said Levy Espiritu, Executive Director of IFAWPCA and President of Datem Inc., one of the companies involved in the Department of Education’s PPP for School Infrastructure Project. “This will be the first of our quarterly infrastructure summit which will enable the industry to regularly come together to discuss issues relevant to infrastructure projects being and to be implemented. This quarterly dialogue has been mutually agreed upon between the private and public sectors. We look forward to the support of our colleagues in the industry as we seek to build a better Philippines.”
